| History Jakobstad,
which was founded in 1652, has about 20,000 inhabitants.
Some 11,000 people speak Swedish and 9,000 Finnish as
their native language. I'm amongst them who speak
swedish.
Jakobstad is the place of birth of the Finnish
national poet, Johan Ludvig Runeberg. We are all rather
proud of our traditions and culture.
The town has been built twice. It burned to the ground
about 150 years ago and was rebuilt. The only area spared
was Norrmalm, popularly called Skata. Skata is now one of
the largest uniform wooden house areas in the country.
Jakobstad Museum, the former Malm Trading
House, is one of the most fascinating museums in our
country.
Knowledge of the past leads to the future.
